TikTok surprises us yet again. A new beauty hack has gone viral on social media: girls are applying slime to their hair, spreading it through the strands, and waiting 20 minutes. According to influencers, this method is supposed to leave hair shiny, silky, and soft.
But in reality, the results are far from glamorous. Slime sticks to and tangles the hair (unsurprisingly), leaving users to comb, cut, shave, or even burn off their strands to remove the gooey mess.
And even if the hair survives, the chemicals in the slime can irritate the scalp, cause hair loss, or lead to inflammation.
The trend originated from a rice-based hair mask by the brand Anua Global, which has a similar slime-like texture and is actually designed for hair care.
But many bloggers decided that anything can become part of a beauty routine—so they swapped the skincare product for colorful children’s slime. Videos with the hashtag #slimehairmask are now nearing half a billion views.
We’re definitely against such experiments. If you’re looking for silky, healthy hair, we recommend checking out the hair masks featured in our article instead.
